In the dialog box that comes up, first choose "Delimited" (rather than fixed length) on the next screen, choose "Comma" as the separator (and deselect all the others). I imported it into Excel, and each category I chose to import from Contacts was a column, each contact was a row. If not yet downloaded, click on the Windows Download button above. I don't know about importing into other programs - I know some email programs can't handle a CSV file with blank records, but if the record is blank in the contact list it will be blank in the CSV as well. It was far more customizable than I expected, and gave me a perfect CSV file of my Contacts contact list. Using a spreadsheet quickly becomes unworkable, which is why contacts must use a database unless real-world complications are simply ignored. Do these go in separate columns? How many columns? What if a contact has more then one has allowed for? Or do they go in a separate sheet with some sort of "link"? Email addresses, URLs, related names all have the possibility of multiple values per contact. But then how are addresses to be managed? A contact can have multiple address, home, work, other, and even Custom → FloridaTimeshare, Custom → HawaiiTimeshare, etc.
